The One Minute Puffin Cure #2

It takes an extraordinary amount of time to keep in tip-top waterproof condition when you spend your time in the salty ocean. Puffins have special preen glands located near the base of their tail which exude oil when pressed with their bill. They then spread this oil over their feathers and will often draw their feathers between their bill to make sure the barbs on their feathers are ‘zipped-up’.

Here’s a calm and joyful minute of Puffins preening. Enjoy!

A waterproof Puffin is a warm Puffin. On Westray, that also applies to me.
