The One Minute Puffin Cure #5
Puffins are hunted by Great Skuas (known in Orkney as Bonxies). The Bonxies patrol the coast and appear, low and fast, unseen against the low cliffs. These Puffins are constantly on the lookout for them and the huge Great Black Backed Gulls (known in Orkney as Baakies). In today’s One Minute Puffin Cure, a group of wary Puffins spot a Great Skua approaching – watch what they do when they spot it.
Recorded using a tiny remote control camera at the Castle o’ Burrian on Westray in Orkney.
“Puffins are good for the soul.”
Amazingly, Puffins are at risk of extinction. Marine pollution, over-fishing and global heating leading to climate disruption are all taking their toll. Learn more about their lives on my blog. Thanks for watching.
