60,000 tonnes

The statistics say we catch 60,000 tonnes of edible crab around the British Isles each year. Imagine if we talked about humans in tonnes. Each female has between 250,000 and 3,000,000 young and the very few lucky ones live to be 25 to 30 years old. Exceptional ones get to be 100 years old; if they’re not eaten first, of course.
