Red Kite clutching

The Red Kites over my friends’ garden here in Oxfordshire all appear to be clutching something.

There’s usually a feather or a piece of sheep’s wool or some straw. It’s also usually quite small and difficult to tell what it is.

They’re so common here that it’s hard to imagine how many we must have killed to almost eradicate them completely from the British countryside.
