Phoenix Sounds
I’ve been sketching in Newton Abbot again. This time it’s my local record shop, Phoenix Sounds. I love the vinyl they have in there and Record Store Day is always an entertaining time. Last year I was queuing outside before 7am and already quite far back in the queue. They do provide hot drinks and breakfast for a donation, though, and the conversation is top-notch, so I have no complaints. I was able to get the vinyl I wanted – In the Beginning by The Slits (blue vinyl), Winter in America by Gil Scott-Heron / Brian Jackson (inside out vinyl effect), Live in Europe 1964 by Howlin’ Wolf (smokey coloured vinyl), Live At The Rainbow Theatre 1974 by Average White Band (white vinyl) and The 1975 Sire Demos by The Ramones (black splattered clear vinyl).
They’re on the move to new premises soon, so it was good to capture their current shop. I look forward to visiting their new place.
