Cinderella Iron

The last we saw of a Grey Heron was one standing, impressively, on a branch over the lake at Lago di Alviano.

We’d spent a day seeing them fly by. They’re impressive birds when close.

Whenever I see them now I’m amused that one lady in a Rome park described the bird as a Grey Flamingo. I chuckle every time I think of it.

I posted my favourite photograph of a Grey Heron on Facebook and used my best Italian to name it as Airone Cenerino. That’s as close as you can get to a literal translation from the English of Grey Heron and also the correct Italian Name. Facebook translated it as ‘Cinderella Iron’.

This is my favourite photograph of a Cinderella Iron, especially because of the water droplets behind its feet. Can you see them?

Yes, it shall go to the ball.
