Noltland Castle

I’ve wanted to take a decent photograph of Noltland Castle ever since I first saw it, as I struggled up the hill towards Noup Head.

Today is my chance:

It looks glorious from this angle, with Noltland Farm beyond it. The walls are 7 feet thick and it has 71 gunloops. I’m not saying that the man who built it might have been paranoid, because he definitely was:

The layout from above is fascinating, too. Gilbert Balfour died before it was finished, meaning that it never was. I particularly like the mushroom fairy rings, like dark green ink blots, decorating the grass surrounding it. Can you see them?
