Black-Headed Gulls at the Quay
Staying local for your exercise is difficult if brownfield sites are built upon, public spaces are full and green spaces are privately owned and fenced off. Luckily I have historic Newton Abbot Quay within a waddle and it’s relatively empty. Today there are Black Headed Gulls in beautiful light:
Their breeding population has grown significantly in the last 100 years and there are now 140,000 breeding pairs of these beautiful freshwater gulls.
During winter months millions of birds head to the UK from Russia, Scandinavia and the Baltic countries. Millions of them certainly don’t stay local.
