The King of Fishers

The views of Kingfishers I’ve had before were fleeting. A brief glimpse of a flash of a bluish-emerald jewel disappearing over the water was my lot. It was a thrill that a Martin Pescatore, as the Italians call them, came close to a hide with us in it:

I’d never realised their feet were bright red with beautiful long black claws.

This one showed us a front view, a right profile and a left profile.

And then it was gone.
