Bramlyng

Bramblings are entertaining birds to watch. They appear to act very similarly to Chaffinches and they are the same size and shape. Their scientific name is Fringilla montifringilla, which means ‘Finch Mountain Finch’. Their original English name was Bramlyng, which means ‘Loud Lung’.

They have subtle orange and black colouration which gets far more intense in the summer months.

Their dark-tipped yellow beak is a delight.
