Evening light on the snowy mountains

The Dalmatian Pelicans of Lake Kerkini are certainly photogenic. So is the Lake and the surrounding landscape.

Perhaps the most important thing I’ve taken from my time away in Greece and Bulgaria taking wildlife photographs with a small group is that I now enjoy taking wildlife-in-landscape photographs in a way I never did before. Part of that is getting up at 5:30 in the morning to catch the dawn and staying out almost all day to catch the sunset. Just look at that light catching the snow which has settled on the surrounding mountains. What a spectacular time of day to be out on a small boat on the Lake surrounded by giant birds.

I wonder how long setting my alarm early will last? Maybe I’ll become someone who gets up before dawn and catches the incredible light? Or maybe not. Sunset is more my kind of thing.
