Dalmatian Pelicans on Lake Kerkini
I’ve just spent a week in Greece and Bulgaria in a group of six people taking photographs of the wildlife there. I’ve taken thousands of photographs and heard wonderful stories and will be sharing all the most interesting with you here.
To start with, here’s a Dalmatian Pelican, Pelecanus crispus, flying across Lake Kerkini. It was late in the day and we had already taken thousands of photographs of the Dalmatian Pelicans on the lake. Something about the light and landscape meant I had to carry on shooting.

What a magical landscape for the Pelicans to inhabit. To share it with them was a privilege.
Dalmatian Pelicans weigh an average of 11 kilograms. That’s 24 lbs, or approximately the weight I’ve put on after a week of Greek and Bulgarian food.
