Lichen is hardy. The salt spray, the desiccating sun, and the bitter wind don’t discourage it at all. They simply slow its growth to an imperceptible creep.
There are 20,000 different species of lichen and they cover 6% of the Earth’s surface. Give them enough time and they’ll cover more.
