Diverse Divers
We’ve just been on another Brixham wildlife cruise skippered by Dave on Kelly’s Hero and run by Mike Langman. It’s been as brilliant as ever. We saw three different species of Divers (or Loons as Americans refer to them).
Here’s the Great Northern Diver I’m used to seeing in South Devon in winter. It’s got the familiar black collar and thick bill:
And here’s a Black Necked Diver in winter plumage, with its thin bill and white patch visible towards the rear, just above the waterline:
There was also a Red Necked Diver but for some reason I can’t find my photographs of it and I have no idea why. Maybe they were far too distant, out of focus and badly exposed. It wouldn’t be the first time.
