Working Westray #7
I’ve loved being invited to see people working on Westray. I’ve even invited myself. There are many jobs I’ve no experience of, and I feel like I’m learning so much about other people’s lives that I’m growing into a different person. Insight is a wonderful thing.
Here’s Kim with some of her small flock of sheep, which she keeps in a field at her home in Westray.
She breeds and trains sheepdogs as well as shepherding a large flock. Here’s one young dog in training, being taught the commands, and trying to resist a wolf’s instinct, in exchange for a human’s reward.
It’s a huge amount of practical work to train a sheepdog and I hope they all get wonderful homes and fulfilling lives from people who care about them as much as Kim.
I love the colours of the wool on these crossbreed sheep. Curious creatures, aren’t they?
