Pickieterno over the rainbow
I’m out taking photographs of the female Grey Phalarope. Yes, this one:
I did come here to take photographs of Dunlin, which I also managed to:
I’m surrounded by Arctic Terns. This is what an Arctic Tern looks like. It’s a Sea Swallow, a bird so light that its body goes up when its wings go down, like some child’s toy. In Orcadian, it’s a Pickieterno:

Now there’s fine rain, intense sunlight and a rainbow with multiple supernumerary rainbows within it. I watch and wait for a Pickieterno to cross the arc of the bow:

Wow!
This has got to be the most seriously insane two hours of bird photography I have ever done.
