Blackcap
There’s a beautiful song coming from the bush in front of me. It’s the ‘Northern Nightingale’, the Blackcap:

Blackcaps practice leap-frog migration:
We could call them Browncaps because that’s what the females are like, but; sexism.
This is the male with his black cap. If you look closely, he’s just in the middle of doing a poo. Luckily it wasn’t one in the eye for me.

Their song is ‘rich and bubbly”:
They’re very aggressively territorial.

Which explains all that effort singing. It’s not for my benefit. But then, why do I enjoy it so much?
