Great Black Backed Gull

Great Black Backed Gulls are properly massive. And I mean massive.

And their beaks? Massive too.

Seeing one call overhead on Westray is an awe-inspiring experience.

Later I’m stumbling along the shore at the Ouse and spot a skull. It’s probably a Great Black Backed Gull skull.

In death, as in life, it’s deeply impressive.
