An African Spoonbill
I’ve seen Spoonbills in Somerset and in Italy but they were the Eurasian Spoonbill, Platalea leucorodia.
I’m in Kenya now and the Spoonbill which has just flown past us is an African Spoonbill, Platalea alba.

It has exceptionally long legs and thin pointed toes to help it wade through water. It’s unmistakable because of its red legs and face and its bill like a spoon.
What a wonderful sight.
