Early nesters

Grey Herons are early nesters. There’s a lot of growing to do for a Heron, to get from egg-sized to a full-size bird, so they can sometimes be on a nest in February.

This youngster in the reeds is well on its way to adulthood.

All it needs is a few more weeks of regurgitated food and it’ll be hunting the shallows for itself.
