Let battle commence

The Northern Nutcrackers on this Bulgarian ski slope are an absolute dream for me. I could never have imagined that I would have the chance to witness their behaviour.

Just look how spectacular they are when they fight:

Most fighting within animals is ritualised. It’s combat with rules to ensure the outcome is a clear victor and most serious injuries to everything but pride are avoided. This fight is to secure access to excess food. They needn’t have bothered. There are far more peanuts in the sack.
