Crampons and Nutcrackers

The backlit wings of Northern Nutcrackers and the glorious rim-light they display are a delight.

The powdery snow is so pure and crisp. I’m glad I’ve got my thermals on.

Their motivation to be here is the scattered peanuts which we have left on a snowy hillock. As they fly we can see their all-white vent feathers.
