Greenfinch

It’s poor light but the snow on the ground is reflecting the light beautifully. The softness of the sound and the softness of the light combine to make a restful atmosphere here in a small-bird hide in Bulgaria.

There’s a Greenfinch perching in front of our hide. The way their plumage fades from green to grey and the intense flashes of yellow on the wings make them a very smart bird indeed.

There’s a lovely wintery, warm orange background behind this perch. It adds to the scene with the contrast between green and orange, especially with that acid lemon yellow, making the image hum.

They’re never going to look happy, though, are they?
