The Red-Backed Shrike is no longer considered a regular British breeding bird because it became effectively extinct as a breeding species in the UK in 1989.

I saw this one in Italy:

They have as good a sense of sight of any living creature I have ever encountered.

Here’s one I met in Orkney:

They should be widespread here, if only it wasn’t for the habitat destruction and a lack of insect prey they would be delighting us.
