More Oak Apples
Are there more Oak Apple Galls this year, or am I spending more time under oak trees looking upwards? Probably the latter, as I’ve been taking Anna the Black Labrador for walks.
Here’s one in beautiful sunshine.

The wasps which create them using a defensive reaction by the tree have an extraordinary lifecycle, alternating between branches and roots and between sexually and asexually reproducing generations in every year.
I must spend some time looking down at the roots of oak trees this winter. Maybe more walks with Anna the Black Labrador will help.
