Mandarin

A male Mandarin Duck is always a cheerful sight.

They are a constant reminder of just how much thought goes into choosing a mate from the female of the species. Sexual selection has shaped our world in all the finer differences between males. Females use their senses to discriminate which male will be best to fertilise their eggs. Given how much effort eggs are to produce and to incubate, getting it wrong can be a costly mistake.
