Rose-Ringed Parakeet in The Regent’s Park

Many of the parks in London are busy with a naturalised species of Parrot. The Rose-Ringed Parakeet is so successful that it has taken over some urban environments with their noisy squawking. They’re still a beautiful novelty to me, but not everyone loves them.

The Rose-Ringed Parakeet is a secondary cavity nest breeder and, although they may enlarge a pre-existing hole to customise it to their requirements, they don’t create their own nesting holes. That means a large number of Great Spotted Woodpeckers and Green Woodpeckers have their beaks put seriously out of joint.
