Fresh food

Leaf Miner in Beech leaf - The Hall of Einar - photograph (c) David Bailey (not the)

When a micro-moth laid an egg in this Beech leaf it infected the leaf with a bacterium. That bacterial infection disrupted the tree’s hormonal balance so the normal withdrawal of nutrients in autumn was interrupted.

It’s left a beautiful green island of fresh food in this leaf. Perfect for a growing caterpillar.
