Pee-wits and worm stroking

A weekend trip to RSPB Lodmoor was good for the soul and it was great to catch up with my friend Martin, too.

The birding was wonderful but my photographs were distant and mainly awful. I did enjoy the chance to see a Lapwing pulling a worm out of the ground. though. Worms don’t really want to be pulled, and they erect bristles to ‘dig-in’ and resist. If you’ve ever stroked a worm, they’re smooth when you stroke them from head to tail and rough when you stroke them from tail to head. A bit like my face.

There was no resisting this Lapwing, however. It slurped this thin worm up as if it was spaghetti. Delicious.
