No stones to turn

Turnstones are regular visitors to Brixham harbour in the winter. They potter around the pontoons and waddle down the breakwater to the lighthouse. The forecast for today is for brilliant sunshine, but by the time I arrive, it’s as dull as seawater. It’s still lovely light for a portrait, though.

This one is on a wall, so it’s easy to get a low angle, by only crouching a little.

I’ve committed myself to the parking fee, so I decide to wait to see if it brightens up between now and sunset, and luckily it does. Handsome aren’t they? Especially in this flattering light.

I need to get a low angle on these shots, too. Unfortunately that means lying down in copious quantities of bird poo.

I hope it was worth it.
