Brambling. Beautiful, aren’t they? In the UK, they are birds of our winter and their breeding numbers are 0-2 nests per year.

It’s a thrill when this one works its way through the undergrowth and perches nearby. Here’s my 1970s nature notebook entry on the Brambling from 1977:
