Sandy Laverock

This juvenile Ringed Plover is a wonderful bird. In Orkney the Ringed Plover is called Sandy Laverock.

The UK conservation status of Ringed Plover is red. That’s because of:

  • Recent Breeding Population Decline (1969-2010);
  • Recent Winter Population Decline (1981-2010);
  • Recent Breeding Range Decline (1981-2010); and
  • Recent Winter Range Decline (1981-2010).

I hope this one will be in Orkney next year and that I’ll be there to see it.
