A funny Tern

I love the small bright yellow boat in Pierowall bay. Having called it a boat, someone will probably correct me and tell me it’s a dinghy. I don’t think it’s a skiff, but then the names of things which sail are not my strength, that much is clear.

There’s a Common Tern fishing in the bay. I walk to the shore on slippery seaweed in unsuitable footwear in an attempt to get close. Common Terns are unusual in Westray and Arctic Terns are much the more common species. I’m marginally better at naming things which dive. I see it fix its gaze on something in the water below and make a dive.

This time it’s not successful. But I am.
