Grey Knights under the pines
There is a beautiful group of Grey Knight fungi under the pines.

Their scientific name is Tricholoma terreum. They are growing on a grassy bank on the main local industrial estate.

Tricholoma means hairy hill. Terreum means ‘of the earth’. They are hairy earth hills.

They are growing gregariously.

I’ve not had too many strange looks from passers-by. A chap on his lunch break takes an interest and even points out another species further up. Fascinating, aren’t they?
