A Puffin evening to say goodbye

It’s nearly time for the Atlantic Puffins to depart. I’d like to say goodbye and good luck to them, so I set off along the track to the Castle’ Burrian. It’s already late.

Clouds are approaching and the light is getting more intense and focussed.

There are fewer and fewer Puffins on the cliffs now. Their Pufflings must have fledged and made their escape out into the North Sea under cover of darkness.

A few still remain.

As I walk home, stumbling in the darkness I see one final Puffin flying against a darkening sky.

Goodbye Puffins. Good luck on the open ocean. See you next year.
