Westray has a certain palette of colours. It’s a world of muted blues, greens and purples; of greys and more greys.
The buoyant Sanderling are exploring Mae Sands and fit perfectly into the colours of this land and seascape:

I love how the waves disturb the sand and rear up with dark and cloudy breakers full of texture against the stone-scattered beach.

The texture of their feathers is wonderful against the waves.

The sun has disappeared behind a cloud, so the colours are as pastel as can be, and the enticing blue of the sky is reflected on the thinnest layer of water left on the beach.
