Narcissus at the Source
I’m getting the usual view that everyone gets if they see a Water Rail:
They are skulking birds which rarely come out of the shadows.
This one on the Lagoon in Orbetello in Italy decides to come out for a moment and I’m delighted to get a decent photograph of it. This being Italy, I can say chiaroscuro.
Then I’m thrilled to see it march out into the shaded pool just in front of me:
What an exceptional bird:
Their disruptive feather patterning is very effective in this environment.
It’s a perfect autumn day. Then the sun comes out and I can see it clearly. It’s Narcissus at the Source by Caravaggio.
