Common Seal in the 1970s
Leafing through my childhood scrapbooks I come across a drawing of a Common Seal. It has all the characteristics of a Common Seal: the cute snub nose; the shape and angle of the nostrils; and that pose:
I was on holiday in Tenby. It was 1977, the year of punk. The holiday I heard that Elvis had died.
Forty years later and I’m in Orkney with a large group of Common Seals basking in front of me.
I’m still just as fascinated.
