Little Grebe – big fish

I’m thrilled to see a Little Grebe appear in The Regent’s Park with a big fish in its bill:

It’s powering along with fast paddles of its webbed feet:

Just the other side of the bridge I can see its chicks waiting expectantly:

• 

They all disappear under the willow branches and I’m left wondering if the chicks managed to swallow this whopper or not.

I’ll never know.
