It’s a difficult day for photography here at Belle Haven Marina in Virginia:
It’s overcast and the sky is grey. I can choose between photographs which are out of focus, have digital noise or are blurred, or a combination of all three. There’s just not enough light.
We’re watching the Ospreys when the male comes back from a fishing trip with two fish, one in each foot. I expect him to land and hand them over to the female to feed their two chicks. That doesn’t seem to be his idea. The female sets flight and is after him in a dashing chase, complaining bitterly:
She is quite a bit bigger than him.
They perform an incredible chase around the Potomac River, with the female in hot pursuit:
They make a magnificent couple:
She lunges at him in mid-air, grasping for the fish in his talons:
In a few minutes it is all forgiven and peace has resumed:
