Look at the halteres on that!
Craneflies have such an unpredictable wobbly flight. Their flight would be a lot worse if they didn’t have such big halteres to stablise them. The strange flapping club-shaped modified wing-pair just behind the actual wings have gyroscopic movement, keep the head stable and act as a balancing and guidance system. Isn’t evolution fabulous?
I could do without so many of them in my kitchen though.
