A Golden Jackal arrives

As we sit in the hide at dawn in the Rhodope Mountains, marvelling at the enormous Griffon Vultures which have just arrived, and the enormity of the landscape they inhabit, a movement catches our eye.

A Golden Jackal has arrived. It’s the first of a small family. Golden Jackals are relatives of wolves and coyotes. It stands curious, concerned, attentive, hungry, ready to attack. Griffon Vultures are 93 to 122 cm (37 to 48 in) long. Golden Jackals have no fear of them.

I love them already.
