Blue Lotus

Along the Nile and through North Africa and beyond, the Blue Lotus flowers above the water, its roots deep in anoxic mud.

Ancient Egyptians depicted them in their art and craft. They were seen as a symbol of the sun, with the flowers closing at night and opening again in the morning.

I’m delighted Kew Gardens have a large pond for them. Beautiful, aren’t they?
