In transition

This Lesser Black-Backed Gull is in transition.

It still has a speckled head and some of its wing feathers are still the camouflage brown of an immature bird. It is also moulting its primary wing feathers in what appears to be a symmetrical pattern.

It’ll soon be a handsome adult bird in sparkling white and slate-grey plumage, ready to find a mate and produce the next generation.
