The Tadpole Fish
There’s a fish which looks like a giant tadpole washed up on Sand o’ Gill on Westray.

As I attempt to get a better second photograph with my phone, it’s scooped up by my other half who runs with it into the sea in her trousers and trainers and attempts to return it. I don’t think she was successful.
I check what it could be: the Tadpole Fish, Raniceps raninus, also known as: Lesser Forkbeard and Jellynose Fish. The eccentric British Sea Fishing website says “Tadpole fish are not consumed by humans and are of no commercial importance. They do not eventually turn into frogs.”
