Dunlin delight

There are stuttering Dunlin all over the sands at The Ouse on Westray.

Lovely, aren’t they?

I’m still learning to identify waders and have stepped bravely and foolishly into plumage differences to see if I can improve my recognition skills.

I’m wondering if this one is a juvenile. Juveniles apparently have unique black belly patches and an obvious mantle and scapular ‘v’ pattern. That’s what I’m seeing here:

But, of course, there’s a joy in being wrong and learning.
