Care to dance?

I’ve had a couple of trips to Chard Reservoir in Somerset recently and have been delighted to see Great Crested Grebes doing their wild ‘weed dance’. Each dives, retrieves some weed, or, in this case, some twigs, approaches the other and then propels themselves out of the water, vertically, with their necks extended.

Here they are approaching one another:

Amazing, aren’t they?

I’m hoping to see their chicks this year, especially in good weather.
