Water Pipit

I’ve seen Meadow Pipits and Rock Pipits before. I’ve even seen Tree Pipits. This is my first time seeing a Water Pipit.

Here’s a Meadow Pipit:

And here’s a Rock Pipit:

And here’s a Tree Pipit:

Yes, I know, I didn’t get very close, did I?

Here’s a Meadow Pipit eating:

Here’s a Rock Pipit eating:

And I haven’t got a photographs of a Tree Pipit eating. I clearly need to up my Tree Pipit game.

I’m visiting the Lower Otter Restoration Project, one of the biggest coastal climate adaptation and habitat creation projects in England. Birds are already colonising the newly created habitat and I’m delighted to see my first ever Water Pipit:

It’s a distant shot, but I’m thrilled to see it. It’s got a very distinctive bright eye stripe, so I don’t need to be a Pipit to distinguish which species it is. I look forward to coming back and maybe, just maybe, getting a little closer next time.
