Big fish
I’ve loved watching the Arctic Terns in Orkney this summer. They’re fascinating.
I spent hours watching them come back to their colonies with fish for their chicks. At first I wanted to take close-up photographs of every species of fish they brought back, so I could get them identified. Some fish species were easier than others. Some were impossible.
This one came back with a sensible-sized fish.

And this one came back with one which its chick had absolutely no chance to swallow.

It wasn’t a pleasure to watch it gag on it as it desperately tried to swallow it.
It managed to swallow the fish, eventually, but not without making me feel quite peculiar!
