Sand Martins in flight

The light’s quite poor and it’s late afternoon turning to evening when I see that the Sand Martins over Stover Country Park lake have come down low over the water to feed. Here’s one about to scoop an insect up off the water’s surface:

They’re making quite a splash:

And then I get my favourite photograph of the evening:

They have a busy nesting season ahead of them, so I wish them well.
